Course Description

The Diagnostics and Interpretation Internship in Clinical Genomic Medicine at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, Riyadh (KFSH&RC-R) provides basic training in the human genome and genetic diseases. Interns are given a comprehensive understanding of human genetics and available molecular genetic diagnostic methods. The one-month training rotation covers the basics of human genetic diseases, inheritance mode and the interpretation of molecular data.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, the trainee will be able to:

Discuss human genetics, modes of inheritance, genotype-phenotype relationship and causes of genetic diseases
Demonstrate competency in performing diagnostic techniques, including Targeted Sanger Sequencing and Illumina Exome Sequencing
Identify & troubleshoot problems that might arise in the laboratory
Report final molecular data
