Course Description

Infection Control is an essential part of delivering safe practice in all healthcare settings. The Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology Department at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) is committed to educating and preparing interns to provide the highest quality of care in a highly specialized hospital environment for the Saudi community.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, the trainee will be able to:

Apply the infection control surveillance plan for assigned inpatients and ambulatory care units
Apply patient care requirements related to infection prevention and control
Educate healthcare workers (HCWs), visitors, patients and their families on infection prevention and control needs
Lead awareness about medical sepsis and oversee appropriate techniques against in-hospital transmission of infection
Comply with infection prevention and control policy, standards or regulations
Understand the process of reporting infectious disease statistics to the Ministry of Health (MoH) on a daily, weekly, monthly basis and in case of particular infections (eg. MTB, MERS-CoV, COVID-19 etc.)
List all necessary measures to prevent the spread of infections or organisms that are highly resistant to antibiotics
Discuss investigation of epidemic infections with other members of the Outbreak Control Team
