Course Description

Prosthetics and Orthotics is an emerging allied health science providing services to physically disabled people to enable them to live an independent life. Prosthetic devices replace missing structural and functional body parts as artificial limbs. Orthotics are exoskeletal appliances serving to replace functional missing limbs for correction, support, maintenance, relief, ambulation etc.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, the trainee will be able to:

List the materials, components and machines used in prosthetic orthotic services
Apply safety standards while using machines for prosthetic orthotic services
Analyze patient clinical assessment data to diagnose a problem accurately
Evaluate patient needs to choose appropriate prosthetic orthotic devices
Create a cast impression of the patient's limb for prosthetic orthotic services
Apply skills to assist in draping or laminating prosthetic or orthotic devices
Analyze the process of marking trim lines, cutting and machining prosthetic or orthotic devices
Evaluate the fabrication process of prosthetic or orthotic devices by facilitating and providing assistance
Create a fitting and gait training plan, including instructions for fit care of prosthetic or orthotic appliances
Explain to the patient the necessary home care instructions for their prosthetic / orthotic device
