Course Description

The Social Services Department at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (KFSH&RC) provides services for patients to support them in dealing with socio-economic conditions that can have a negative impact on their treatment. The social worker plays an active role in cooperation with the medical team in the hospital. The Social Services Department is committed to preparing social work interns to deliver the highest quality of care in a highly specialized hospital environment.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, the trainee will be able to:

Observe the responsibilities and duties of a social worker in a health care institution
Identify social challenges faced by patients and their families
Assist medical team to understand patient’s social environment
Create an action plan at par with the medical treatment plan
Apply social work theories and knowledge efficiently in dealing with tertiary care cases
Develop counseling sessions for patients and families to help them cope with the challenges they are facing
Collaborate with community resources to ensure patients receive the maximum available services
