Course Description

The purpose of this internship-training program is to prepare graduate-level interns for professional practice in a Speech Language Pathology inpatient or outpatient healthcare setting. Throughout the internship, interns will be trained to provide diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders in various acute, rehabilitation or outpatient settings

Learning Objectives

By the end of this training, the trainee will be able to:

Explain adult and pediatric dysphagia
Interpret adult and pediatric clinical swallowing evaluation results
Discuss adult and pediatric dysphagia assessments & findings with other medical professionals, patients and family
Summarize adult and pediatric swallowing and feeding disorders treatment plan
Conduct adult and pediatric instrumental dysphagia assessment procedures
Explain adult & pediatric communication disorders
Explain adult and pediatric communication assessment strategies and tests
Discuss adult and pediatric communication disorders assessments & findings with other medical professionals, patients and family
Summarize adult and pediatric communication disorders treatment plan
Demonstrate professional report writing skills
Develop treatment programs for patients
