The Translational Genomics Internship in the laboratory provides fundamental training in basic Molecular Genomic Medicine. The one-month training internship will cover basic aspects of genetics in health and disease, the structure of nucleic acids and the fundamentals of DNA technology. By the end of the internship, the intern will be able to understand the structure of the human genome, the different techniques of studying human DNA and RNA, the role of DNA and RNA in genetic diseases and the discovery of DNA variants and their role in causing disease.

1. Illustrate the basics of genetics in health and disease
2. Demonstrate knowledge about Nucleic Acids: DNA vs. RNA; and the basics of DNA extraction and purification
3. Describe the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
4. Explain the basics in DNA Sequencing and Detection of DNA Variants
